francesco pasinato

pasinato’s brutal barstools.

francesco pasinato (1935-2003), born in padua, italy, lived as a painter, sculptor, designer and gallery owner in saarbrücken, germany. besides his better-known drawings he created playful sculptures and wallpanels from wood and metal. he also produced outstanding sculptural furniture in an imaginative organic style. in 1974, francesco pasinato designed and crafted approximately 60 custom oak chairs for a renowned restaurant; their organic, sculptural forms were created by meticulous handcrafting.

these bar stools are probably from this restaurant, too.

even though the chairs are often classified as “brutalist style”, their imaginative and skillfully crafted uniqueness makes them almost a genre unto themselves – let’s call it: poetic design.

the seat is flat, making it ideal for usage as a storage surface or small side table.
